What a week. It has been alittle over seven days since Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were wrongfully killed at the hands of the police.
…
Given the pretty interesting week and hey year that we have had as a nation, life as we know it still must go on. Question is how are we going on with our lives? Has the death of Sterling and Castile already become just a distant memory in one of our bad dreams? What are you doing? What are we doing? Are we awake or are we sleeping?
Now i do not know about you but I choose to be awake!!!! On a recent trip back home this past weekend, I was pleasently reminded that some of my white brothers and sisters are just as woke as many of my brothers and sisters on the topic of race relations in this country. I had a brief yet meaningful conversation with a stranger in passing where we discussed our thoughts on the recent series of events that transpired this past week and we both agreed that now was not the time to stay silent, not have an opinion, or to stand by to do nothing all because this has not personally affected your home or your family. When we stay silent to the things that matter we become a part of the problem…not the solution.
So I say to my readers, what has your week been like since the killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile? What are you doing to help further the cause that black lives matter too? Have you shared a post or two on social media on the topic? Have you chosen to support black owned businesses and or boycott certain corporate entities? Have you attended a town hall meeting? Are you writing to your elected officials? I want to hear from you!
