Have you ever woken up and gone to stare at yourself in the mirror and not like the image starring back at you?  Are you still searching…searching for the meaning of life, love, happiness, and most importantly searching for the best version of yourself?  If, like me, you answered yes to the aforementioned questions, then you have taken the first steps to becoming the best version of yourself.  You have decided that no longer will you settle for mediocrity or settle for the image of yourself that is far from the best; be instead in search of the best you.  In a few short steps we will discuss in detail how to be your best.

  1. You have to define your perfect self

Come up with how you would envision yourself to be. How does he or she eat, walk, speak, think, interact, look, feel, etc?  In your definition of self come up with adjectives that are both measurable and obtainable to define yourself.  For instance, he or she is eloquently spoken, is caring and loving to his or her peers, and is generous with their heart and giving.  Now once you have clearly defined the self that you want to be, you can then move on to the next step.

2.  Map out a time frame to achieve your definitions for self

Come up with a mapped time frame for how long it will take you to achieve each and every description of your defined new self.  For example, if you want to be eloquently spoken, you may challenge yourself to read more and to seek new words in the english dictionary…weekly to later apply in real time.  If you also want to be more caring and loving to your peers, you may want to reach out to them more in a genuine way to show them that you care and love them…perhaps doing a monthly check-in via telephone or in person would work best.  Now I know this may seem a bit much but start with the shortest time frames then work your way to longer framed goals.  To keep up with your momentum you want to keep the next step in mind at all times.

3.  Purpose your goals

Remember to purpose your goals so that you stay motivated.  To stay motivated, make sure your goals hold meaning to you, especially for where you are in your life, and that they are always relevant to the best self that you want to be.  With the next goal you will also be able to stay the course.

4.  Hold yourself accountable

In order to hold yourself accountable, you have to make sure that you are checking in with yourself on a daily if not weekly basis to ensure your goals: 1.) still suit you and 2.)are met or are being met.  If your goals are not being met or no longer purpose your life, then you want to make sure that you are giving yourself real consequences and taking inventory of what really is needed.  For instance, if your goal is to be eloquently spoken yet you missed out on a week of reading or looking up new words in the dictionary, do more the second week to move the agenda of being eloquently spoken forward.  You may read an entire book and learn for application 6 new words in the english dictionary.  Either or you are holding yourself accountable.  We all know that with accountability comes great reward.

5.  Reward yourself!

Rewarding yourself is just that…when you have reached your goal of say being eloquently spoken, where let us just say a peer compliments you on your oratory skills, reward yourself!  Take yourself out, go to a spa, or go on a mini road trip.  It does not matter what you do really just reward yourself.  Oh and let us not forget the next and final step.

6.  “Eyes on the Prize”

When the going gets tough and oh will it get tough, just keep your eyes on the prize of wanting to be the best version of you.

I hope you have found the steps to be helpful.  May you find in the mirror the best randition of yourself.  Until next time, be blessed and stay true.
